Israel-West Bank History

  • During the Ottoman Empire the Jewish and Arab wanted the land of Israel. -1516

​

  • When Israel gained their independence and re-established Israel, the Gaza Strip was controleld by Egypt and the West Bank were under the control Jordan. -(1948-49)

​

  • During the 6-Day War, Israel gained control of the West Bank and the Gaza Strips: (Golan Height, Jerusalem). This is the result of various Arab nations attack on Israel. -1967

​

  • The first attempts at non-peace actions from the Palestinians, known as the intifadah. -1987

​

  • There were other attempts and various agreements, such as the 'Middle East Peace Conference', which was an attempt at peace within these areas and the surrounding Arabic area.  -1991

​

  • The attempts at peace began in Oslo, Norway, known as ' Oslo Accord'.  Peace began to increase after the signing of he 'Declaration of Principle', under Clinton, which allowed the Palestinians to govern themselves. -1993

​

  • Israel agrees to gradually withdrawal from the West Bank, under the 'Wye Agreement'. -1997​

​

  • Israel builds a barrier wall to divide Israel settlements from Palestian in West Bank. -2009

​

  • Talks pick back up again, but no clear solution between the two were meet. -2013-14

​

  • The US embassy is established in Jerusalem and is recognized as the capital of Israel. PLO and PA are unsupportive of this recognition, thus negotiations stall, again -(2017-18)

​

  • Today Israel controls more then half of the West Bank. -2024

​

  • After the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th, 2023, forces from in the West Bank began attacks on Israel. -2024
